Research Projects
I am currently executing following four research projects at international, national, and regional levels:
- Indo European collaborative project CRYOSCOPE (funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India; Rs. 1.5 crore): Focused on cryosphere science through new observations and their productive application, this project aims to advance understanding of cryosphere processes and their implications for water resources and climate interactions.
- Permafrost under climate change in two contrasting catchments of the western Himalaya: implications for infrastructure and lives of marginal communities (funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation; Rs. 4.23 crore): This project investigates permafrost dynamics and associated risks, with a focus on understanding impacts on infrastructure stability and vulnerable mountain communities.
- Identifying current and future GLOF risk over contrasting topographic and climate zones of the Indian Himalaya using earth observation data and modelling (funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India; Rs. 92 lakh): This work aims to assess and predict Glacial Lake Outburst Flood risks using advanced remote sensing and modelling approaches to support hazard mitigation and planning.
- An integrated approach for assessing the impact of light absorbing particles on snow depletion and glacier recession in the Kashmir Himalaya using remote sensing, field investigations, and geochemistry (funded by the Jammu and Kashmir Science Technology and Innovation Council, Government of Jammu and Kashmir; Rs. 10.8 lakh): This project examines how atmospheric impurities influence snow and glacier melt, contributing to regional water resource changes.
